Peggy Dees,
Clarinet
With the Dallas Wind Symphony
Dr. Peggy Dees enjoys performing with a variety of ensembles and teaching.  
Having a keen interest in new music, she commissioned David Maslanka’s
Desert Roads and premiered it with the Dallas Wind Symphony. Other recent
co-commissions include
Bright Angel by Roshanne Etezady, and Eternal
Garden

As a member and frequent soloist with the United States Navy Band in
Washington, D.C. (1992-98), Dr Dees has performed concertos at the United
States Capitol, Congressional Medal of Honor Society Convention and Music
Conferences.

In addition to performing, Dr Dees has taught at Bemidji State University and
Illinois State University. She has a particular interest in teaching and learning
styles; her articles highlighting university clarinet professors are available in
The Clarinet, journal of the International Clarinet Association.

Currently Dr Dees performs with the New Sousa Band and with orchestras
and chamber groups across the United States.  A graduate of Interlochen Arts
Academy, she holds a Doctor of Music in Clarinet Performance from Florida
State University. Her primary teachers include Frank Kowalsky, Richard
MacDowell, Robert Marcellus, and John Weigand. Dr. Dees is a member of
Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society and lives in the Seattle area
with her family.
